To extract month and year from a date column in Power Query

  1. Add custom column
  2. In Custom column:
    • Date.Month([Date Column Name])
  3. If you’d like to combine both month and year into one column:
    • Date.totext(Date.Month([Date])) & Date.totext(Date.Year([Date]))
    • If it is a number column, you use Number.ToText()
